DOH Launches Power of Providers COVID-19 Initiative

The Department of Health (DOH) launched the Power of Providers (POP) Initiative in July, with the goal of empowering health professionals across Washington to recommend the COVID-19 vaccination to their patients and clients. The Department of Health (DOH) launched the Power of Providers (POP) Initiative in July, with the goal of empowering health professionals across Washington to recommend the COVID-19 vaccination to their patients and clients. WSDA, along with over twenty other health care organizations and associations, signed on to the initiative.

Today, over 75 percent of Washingtonians 12 years and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and over 70 percent are fully vaccinated. While vaccination rates continue to increase, the DOH believes the POP Initiative is just as important today as it was in July.

What is the POP Initiative?

POP asks health care providers to commit to Seek, Ask/Educate, Vaccinate, and Empower (SAVE) patients against COVID-19.

  • Seek- seek out your patients’ vaccination status
  • Ask/Educate- ask them about the vaccine and offer education
  • Vaccinate- provide vaccination or vaccine referral
  • Empower- empower your patients to share their vaccination status

POP Initiative Resources

The DOH has put together some helpful resources for health care providers who commit to SAVE. They have email templates, newsletter articles, social media posts, and more to help reach out to patients. POP just launched two new toolkits, one to encourage recruitment of new members and a second with commitment resources for those who have already signed up. To download materials and learn more about the POP Initiative, visit the DOH’s website.

Additionally, the DOH wants to hear from organizations who have implemented the POP Initiative. They are interested in what barriers organizations are seeing, what POP materials are being used, how many patients have organizations helped get vaccinated, and any other feedback organizations have.
