Meet CE Requirements

Suicide Prevention

Licensed Washington dentists and hygienists must complete a one-time training for suicide assessment, treatment, and management. This three-hour training must be completed by the end of the full continuing education reporting period ending on the licensee’s annual license renewal date in 2022.

While Suicide Awareness & Referral for Dental Professionals fulfills a requirement by the Washington State Department of Health, presenter Josh Rivedal will present the session through storytelling, light humor, PowerPoint, and group discussion.

Minimal & Moderate Sedation

Licensed Washington dentists who administer minimal and/or moderate sedation must complete seven hours of CE every five years. (Please note: Moderate sedation with parenteral agents permitholders are subject to more intensive requirements.)

This program will provide an overview of strategies for effectively managing dental pain with opioid and non-opioid analgesics and analgesic adjuvants, while also mitigating associated risks. Special emphasis will be given to appropriate practices for prescribing analgesics as well as identification and treatment of opioid analgesic abuse.

 

"I Wanna Be Sedated!": Essential Pharmacology of Agents for Minimal Sedation & Nitrous Oxide Analgesia

Dental anxiety can be a barrier to a patient seeking dental treatment and a challenge to the dental team rendering treatment. This course will provide an overview of the pharmacological agents available for adult minimal sedation, with and without nitrous oxide and oxygen, as well as methods for managing patient anxiety in the dental office.

Opioid Prescribing

Licensed Washington dentists who prescribe opioids must complete a one-time CE requirement regarding best practices in the prescribing of opioids and DQAC’s opioid prescribing rules. This three-hour training must be completed by the end of the full continuing education reporting period ending on the licensee’s annual license renewal date in 2022.

As of January 23, 2021, Washington dentists, hygienists, EFDA/dental assistants and dental anesthesia assistants are required to complete one hour of current infection prevention standards education annually.

Science-based CDC recommendations, OSHA regulations, as well as recommendations from dental organizations will be discussed to support recent infection control updates and modifications.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Dental staff providing direct patient care in an in-office or outpatient setting must hold a current and valid healthcare provider basic life support (BLS) certification. Certification is good for two years.
