Thank you for being a member of the Washington State Dental Association, American Dental Association and your local dental society this year.

2020 has been a year of challenges, with the COVID-19 pandemic deeply affecting both our personal lives and the dental profession. I am incredibly proud of how the Association — backed by our 4,400 members — stepped up to face these challenges. I am also grateful for Washington's dental community putting their trust in WSDA. During the pandemic, our membership has grown to higher numbers than we have seen in years.

WSDA has worked tirelessly to support our members during this difficult time. From successfully advocating for non-urgent dental care to resume, to securing over 1 million masks for Washington dentists, to providing members with the clinical information you needed to safely re-open, WSDA and ADA had your back. In the coming months, WSDA, in conjunction with other health care associations, will fight to keep your practice safely open through advocacy with state authorities and partnering to secure group purchases of vitally needed PPE.

This year, we also secured a transformational victory for dentists and patients by settling our lawsuit with Delta Dental of Washington. The governance reforms agreed upon in the settlement andapproved by Delta member dentists fundamentally shift the relationship between member dentists and Delta. Your governance rights have been restored and protected and member input will be heard and considered.

Today, I am asking you to continue to support your Association by renewing your membership for 2021. Your renewal helps us continue to serve as Washington’s strongest advocate in support of dentists and your patients. You may renew quickly and easily online at wsda.org/renew.

While renewing your membership, you will notice a one-time dues assessment of up to $300. I want to stress that this assessment, approved by the WSDA House of Delegates, is essential to the financial strength of the Association due to the cancellation of the 2020 Pacific Northwest Dental Conference — which normally accounts for 40% of WSDA’s annual revenue — and costs incurred from the successful lawsuit against Delta Dental of Washington. Learn more from WSDA Secretary-Treasurer Dr. Nathan Russell.

The strength of organized dentistry lies in our numbers. I ask that you continue to support WSDA by renewing your membership for 2021. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. I look forward to serving you through the next year and beyond.

Sincerely,

Bradshaw
