Paid Family and Medical Leave Update

The Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) announced that the Paid Family and Medical Leave Program reporting deadline for the first quarter (April 30) will be pushed back to July 31, 2019.
Last week, the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) announced that the Paid Family and Medical Leave Program reporting deadline for the first quarter (April 30) will be pushed back to July 31, 2019. Employers will now report and remit premiums for quarters one and two between July 1 and July 31, 2019. Please note this deadline change only applies to Paid Family and Medical Leave for 2019.

In preparation for reporting, employers should continue collecting Paid Family and Medical Leave premiums, budgeting for the employer share of the premium and tracking employee hours and wages. Beginning July 1, employers will submit both Q1 and Q2 reports and premium payments through the online customer management system. Employers must file separate reports for Q1 and Q2. More information about the reporting process can be found through the Department’s Employer Toolkit.
