Washington State Department of Ecology Regulations
The Washington State Department of Ecology started new dangerous waste rulemaking in February, including dangerous waste pharmaceutical regulations similar to recent EPA proposals. They expect to adopt new regulation around June of 2017.
The new regulations should have minimal impact on most dental offices, as they mostly affect businesses that generate large amounts of dangerous waste. One part of the proposed new rules will prohibit any health care facility from disposing of dangerous waste pharmaceuticals to the sewer. Dental offices would meet the proposed regulatory definition of a health care facility.
