WA Dentists: This Member Needs Your Help
Members, you may have recently read in ADA News about Dr. Kapil Vij, an Illinois pediatric dentist and ADA member diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer. Dr. Vij’s best chance for beating his cancer comes from a bone marrow transplant with a donor from the National Marrow Donor Program. As of yet, he has not found a match, but you may be able to help.
Dr. Vij will visit Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle this August for a bone marrow transplant if they can find a suitable match. His best chance for a successful match will be from a southern Asian donor between the ages of 18-44.
If you or anyone you know fits this profile and would like to find out if you could be a match, please register as a donor.
Qualified potential donors, ages 18-44, can learn more and register for the national marrow donor program online here.
A second nonprofit, DKMS We Delete Blood Cancer, allows some marrow donors up to age 55. Register here.
To hear more about Dr. Vij and his story, please watch the following video. The Bone Marrow Foundation is also collecting monetary donations for Dr. Vij, which you may donate to here. Please share within the Washington dental community and beyond in the hope that we may help Dr. Kapil Vij find a donor!
