DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH REVIEWING RULES ON DENTAL RECORDS
On April 18, the Dental Quality Assurance Commission (DQAC) will hold a public rules hearing on the proposed Dental Treatment Records rule modifications. The hearing will begin at 8:00 a.m. and be held at the Department of Health Offices in Tumwater. You can view a copy of the proposed rules here. The Dental Treatment Records rule modifications were filed with the Department of Health on January 27, 2014 and are now in the second of three rule making phases.
The proposed rules seek to clarify what must be included in a patient record. If the rules are approved as written, dentists would be required to document conversations with patients regarding the risks and benefits of a particular treatment, alternatives to treatment, post treatment instructions and any patient complaints or resolutions. The proposed rules would also update portions of the patient records and accessibility requirements to be consistent with federal law (HIPAA).
