Dr. Bryan Edgar Pens Seattle Times Op-Ed
In an opinion piece penned for The Seattle Times, WSDA President Dr. Bryan Edgar voices our state's need to improve access to high-quality dental care. Edgar argues that the state's dental safety net is failing the people of Washington and dentists are attempting to fill the gap by supporting programs like RIDE, dental residencies, and free care events in their offices.
One annual free healthcare event — the Seattle-King County Clinic — is currently underway at KeyArena, but Edgar knows that events like it are not enough. "A single weekend of dedication cannot replace the focus needed to address the gap in the health-care system that treats dental care like an afterthought," he says. "Even while we are grateful for events like the Seattle-King County Clinic, we need to work together to draw closer to the day when it is no longer needed."
