The Dental Quality Assurance Commission will hold their next Business meeting on October 27, 2023, which will include a rule hearing on the proposed health equity CE rules.
As a reminder, the health equity CE rule language proposes that dentists must take 2 hours of health equity CE every 3 years, in alignment with the dental CE cycle, and this CE will count toward the 63-hour requirement. The language also proposes that dental anesthesia assistants must take 2 hours of health equity CE every 3 years; however, this will be in addition to the 12 hours of CE anesthesia assistants are currently required to obtain.
Aside from the public hearing, the Commission will consider non-substantive changes to the anesthesia rule. Also, the Commission will review EFDA program applications, receive updates from the Dental Therapy Committee and Educational Outreach Committee, and discuss correspondence from a representative from Anesthesia Mobile asking for an exception for dental anesthesia assistants to be supervised by board-certified physician anesthesiologists.
Finally, the Commission will hear a report for the annual American Association of Dental Boards meeting and discuss signing up for hearing panels.
