Last week, the Dental Quality Assurance Commission (DQAC) announced a proposed change to WAC 246-817-310 in addition to the creation of WAC 246-817-305 and -315. The new rules would set requirements for dental treatment records content, retention, and accessibility. DQAC plans to adopt the proposal at their March 6th meeting at the Department of Health offices in Tumwater, WA.
The proposed rules detail patient record content requirements, move business record related requirements to a new rule, and separate business and patient record accessibility. The new proposal is different from DQAC’s 2014 record content proposal in that it modifies and moves deleted requirements for ownership and lessee requirements to WAC 246-817-315.

Written comments should be submitted prior to the hearing or verbally at the hearing. DQAC will be accepting written comments from public stakeholders until February 27th. Parties interested in submitting written comments may do so online at the Department of Health’s policy review webpage.
