The Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) recently announced the awarding of a new contract for on-demand and pre-scheduled spoken language interpretation services to SOS International LLC (SOSi), replacing interpretingWorks effective February 12, 2024.

Under this new contract, SOSi is expected to enhance the accessibility and quality of interpretation services offered to L&I providers. Key improvements include streamlined processes for requesting in-person, video, and over-the-phone interpretation services for both unscheduled visits and scheduled appointments. This initiative aims to provide consistent, high-quality interpretation access, bolstered by SOSi's hands-on management of service delivery, customer support, and technical assistance. Furthermore, the arrangement ensures prompt and accurate payment for Language Access Providers (LAPs).

Providers can expect 60 days advanced notice from L&I, who expects to disclose the service's official launch date in the coming spring. SOSi is also tasked with conducting training and orientation sessions for providers, staff, and LAPs to facilitate a smooth transition.

WSDA encourages members who utilize L&I's interpretation services to stay informed on these upcoming changes and participate in the preparatory sessions offered. For any inquiries or feedback, members can contact L&I directly via interpretation@lni.wa.gov.
