National Prescription Drug Take Back Day This Saturday, April 24

Saturday, April 24 is the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Take Back Day, held twice per year in April and October, offers an avenue to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs in a safe, responsible, and convenient way.

During Take Back Day, temporary collection sites are set up in local communities throughout the country for safe disposal of prescription drugs. The service is free and anonymous. During the last Take Back Day in October 2020, sites across the country collected nearly 1 million pounds of unwanted medications and other materials.

The majority of prescription drug misuse starts with individuals using a medication not prescribed for them. Safely disposing of unused and potentially addictive drugs helps to save lives by ensuring that such medications are not stolen and misused.
