Course Description
The way in which dentists have diagnosed and classified periodontal diseases has remained constant since 1999. In 2018, the American Academy of Periodontology published the updated Classification for Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions. This lecture will explore the more common, clinically relevant periodontal disease diagnoses based upon the updated guidelines. Diagnosis will be discussed based upon relevant clinical parameters. Treatment options including both traditional and more recent innovative methods of treatment will be presented. Clinical cases will be used to illustrate these principles. Maintenance strategies to prevent and manage the periodontal patient will also be discussed.
