Updated Dental Infection Control Rules

The Dental Quality Assurance Commission (DQAC) finalized new Dental Infection Control Rules on Dec. 23, 2020.

The Dental Quality Assurance Commission (DQAC) finalized new Dental Infection Control Rules on Dec. 23, 2020. Rule amendments are effective Jan. 23, 2021.

The adopted rule amendments and new sections incorporate many of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations including:

  • Written policies and procedures with annual staff training;
  • Sterilization of low-speed hand piece motors;
  • Sterilization of single use items when appropriate;
  • Storage and wrapped packages, container, or cassette requirements;
  • Identification of appropriate disinfectants;
  • High volume evacuation; and
  • Water line testing.
 
WSDA will provide additional information regarding the new rules as it becomes available.
