Dental Medicaid Program Managed Care Update

The Health Care Authority (HCA) announced today that the implementation of the managed care dental program will be delayed until July 1, 2019.

According to the HCA, the delay gives the legislature an opportunity to enact a budget that provides the funding necessary to implement the program.

The current fee-for-service dental program will remain unchanged during this timeframe.

In early August, the HCA announced the three apparent successful bidders (ASBs) for the administration of the program:

  • Amerigroup (partnered with DentaQuest)
  • Dentegra (partnership with Delta Dental of California, Delta Dental of Washington and Arcora)
  • MCNA Dental

Medicaid Transition to Managed Care Cancelled

The 2019 Legislature has directed the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) to continue to administer the dental Medicaid program through fee-for-service. The HCA may not proceed with a carved-out or carved-in managed care dental option at this time.
