WSDA supports the current law regarding the ownership of a dental practice, and opposes any changes that would allow non-licensed individuals to influence or interfere with the professional judgment of a licensed dentist. Washington law should continue to ensure that dentists are first and foremost accountable to their patients and not non-dentist shareholders.
ISSUES & PRIORITIES

Good oral health is essential to maintaining good overall health; WSDA supports initiatives and programs that reinforce this important link.
From supporting dental residencies as the best way to increase access to quality dental care around the state, to fighting midlevel providers, here is a list of bills currently before the legislature that the WSDA is either in support of or fighting.
Ensure Fair Auditing Practices Ensure Fair Auditing Practices
WSDA urges Legislators to vote YES on HB 1314
HB 1314 puts safeguards in place to ensure a fair and transparent Medicaid audit process. “Gotcha” auditing tactics discourage dentists’ participation in Medicaid and hinder access to care for low income families.
Protect Consumers by Expanding the Patient Bill of Rights to Cover Standalone Dental Insurance Carriers
WSDA supports ensuring patients have the same protections when accessing dental care as when accessing medical care. WSDA also supports eliminating the unfair insurance practices of some dental insurance carriers.
For years, the WSDA has been at the forefront of advocacy efforts on behalf of patient access to quality dental care around the state. The WSDA has long championed dental residencies and expanded education offerings as better, more viable solutions to the access to care issues.
