Tramadol Reclassification: What it means to you

As of August 18, 2014, tramadol and products containing tramadol will be classified as Schedule IV. Tramadol is an opioid analgesic used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain and is sometimes prescribed by oral surgeons for patients recovering from oral surgery. According to the DEA, a Schedule IV drug is a drug with a low potential for abuse and low risk of dependence.  Examples of Schedule IV drugs are Valium, Ativan, Ambien and Xanax.

Medicaid Policy Updates

Provider Guides

Please note that effective July 1, 2014, the Health Care Authority (HCA) will no longer be sending listserv notices regarding provider guide updates. The HCA currently updates each provider guide at the start of each quarter: January 1st, April 1st, July 1st & October 1st. According to the HCA, it will now be the responsibility of the provider to access the updated provider guides on the HCA’s website at the start of each quarter.
