CALIFORNIA ARBITRATION

This week, the California Dental Association (CDA), together with several of its members, filed a demand for arbitration with Delta Dental of California (California Delta).

The arbitration demand seeks to prevent the effectiveness of California Delta’s announced changes to its agreement with dentists (1) revising the contractual provision concerning arbitration, and (2) deleting a provision in the current California Delta contract that California Delta would only lower its maximum amount payable if “participating dentists’ filed or submitted fees decrease to such an extent that Delta is warranted in reducing the maximum amount allowed.”  The central issue in the legal proceeding is likely to be whether this distinct justification language from the California Delta agreement can be modified.

THE WSDA REMEMBERS DR. VINCENT G. KOKICH

Editors Note: The WSDA recently lost another incredibly respected WSDA member: dentist, editor and educator Dr. Vincent G. Kokich passed away suddenly on July 24. After retiring in 2010, Kokich was preparing to return to his role as educator at the UWSoD. Always a consummate professional, it has been said that Kokich would have rather have been remembered first as a devoted family man and second, a teacher.  A renowned educator, scholar, researcher and a leading advocate of interdisciplinary dentistry, Dr. Kokich was a prominent lecturer, having presented more than 950 lectures throughout the world.

Dr. R. Terry Grubb · 1938 - 2013 


Editors Note: The WSDA recently lost one of its most respected and beloved members, Dr. R. Terry Grubb, in a tragic motorcycle accident. Grubb was active throughout his career at the local, state and national levels of organized dentistry, serving as president of his component and the WSDA, Second Vice President of the American Dental Association, a Regent on the American College of Dentists, a Fellow in the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Society, and a member of the Washington State Dental Quality Assurance Commission, and many others.
