The Washington State Dental Association remains opposed to HB 1310. In Washington state, the dental therapist model is unsustainable without government subsidy and drains limited financial resources away from proven dental safety net programs. HB 1310 also creates unnecessary risks to the safety of dental patients. Watch our short video to learn more.

In November 2011, two media outlets ran stories on House Bill 1310. HB 1310 was introduced in the 2011 legislative session and would create two new practitioners: a dental therapist and an advanced dental therapist. WSDA remains opposed to HB 1310 and voiced concerns about the bill in both articles. The first story was run by NPR affliate KPLU on November 11 and can be found here. The second story ran on November 23 in Seattle's street newspaper Real Change and can be found here. Please direct questions on HB 1310 or other legislative issues to email@example.com.
In November, the Kellogg Foundation released a new 9 minute dental therapist video with footage from Kansas, Washington, and Alaska. The video dicusses the potential implementation of the dental therapist model outside of Alaska. WSDA continues to advocate against the dental therapist model. All I really want for Christmas is for the midlevel provider issue to curl up and die. I am tired of hearing about it and tired of writing about it! In September, our House of Delegates will meet, and it will once again be time to review our game plan.
