Washington State Projected to Maintain Strong Dental Workforce

The Washington State Dental Association’s newly released 2012 Dental Workforce Report represents the most comprehensive picture of the state’s dental workforce ever taken. The report examines the current demographics of dentists and makes projections about Washington’s dental workforce for the next twenty years.

VICTORY! State Legislature to Restore Adult Dental Medicaid


After six months, the 2013 legislative session—a combination of a 105-day regular session and two special sessions—has come to a close. The House and Senate came to a compromise and passed a 2013-15 Biennium Operating Budget only two days before state government would have been forced to shut down. The final $33.6 billion budget includes $1 billion in new court mandated K-12 education funding, a 12 percent funding increase for higher education, and very little revenue generated from new taxes.

WSDA Creates Task Force on Public Policy Development

Last week, the WSDA Board of Directors formally created the Task Force on Public Policy Development. The idea for this task force was generated last fall at a Board of Directors retreat. The Task Force will be charged with overseeing the development of a long-term (10-15 year) public policy agenda focused on measurable, evidence-based solutions for improving oral health.

2013 Legislative Session Update

The regular session of the 2013 Legislature officially ended on April 28. However, significant work still needs to be done to finalize the 2013-15 biennium operating budget. Governor Inslee has called for a special session to begin on May 13 to complete this budgetary work. A budget update can be found here.
