Seattle RAM Event needs volunteers!

 An initiative connecting underserved and vulnerable populations to the health services and resources they need seeks professional volunteers to provide free dental, vision and medical care at a giant health clinic, Oct. 23 – 26, in KeyArena at Seattle Center. 

The clinic, produced in partnership with the humanitarian organization Remote Area Medical® (RAM) and more than 30 health, human service and civic organizations from across the State of Washington, is expected to provide free services for as many as 1,000 patients each day, if the event is fully staffed. For ten days during the tail end of March 2014 I joined a group providing dental services to the underserved communities outside Cuzco, Peru. These were ten days which not only allowed for exploration of Machu Picchu and the consumption of Peruvian delicacies like guinea pig, but provided dental opportunities unrivaled by any in my school curriculum.

Local dentist gets national spotlight for his Give Kids a Smile event
WSDA Member Dr. Judson Werner opened his office on February 7 in observance of Give Kids a Smile day. Werner partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Bellevue to provide 20 kids with $6,643 worth of fillings, sealants, prophys, exams, fluoride and oral hygiene instructions. The ADA featured his community stewardship here. Good work, Dr. Werner!
