2014 Citizens of the Year: Drs. Amy Winston and Bart Johnson

Each year, WSDA members from across the state nominate one of their own to receive the Association’s highest honor, the Citizen of the Year Award. Steeped in tradition, the award honors the dentist who has displayed exemplary service to the community through civic/charitable activities, whether dental-related or not. 

This year, rather than choosing just one recipient, the Committee on Recognition chose two: Drs. Bart Johnson and Amy Winston, the workhorse partnership behind four charitable programs in Seattle (five, if you count the staggering amount of uncompensated care they provide at their private practice) designed to create access for some of the state’s most vulnerable populations — medically-complex and challenging patients, the poor and the uninsured, and patients with cancer and renal failure.

Medicaid Claim Form Updates

Attention Medicaid Providers: Effective November 1, 2014, the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) will only accept dental paper claims submitted on the new ADA paper claim form (version 2012). The HCA plans to begin accepting the new ADA paper claim form by October 19, 2014 and will be accepting both the 2006 and 2012 version until November 1, 2014.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE: DR. KIM NORDBERG IN GUATEMALA

For the past 12 years, WSDA Member and Loma Linda Dental School Adjunct Professor Dr. Kim Nordberg has been making short term dental mission trips to Guatemala and El Salvador with a group that has included his sons Peder and Eric; students from dental schools at Loma Linda, USC and UCLA; and fellow dentists from the Christian Medical Dental Association of Southern California.

Washington State Dental Association Selects Mr. Bracken Killpack As New Executive Director

The Washington State Dental Association has named Mr. Bracken Killpack as its Executive Director, effective January 2, 2015. Killpack will succeed Mr. Stephen Hardymon when he retires after 21 years as WSDA’s Executive Director. Killpack joined the organization in 2006 and currently serves as the Association’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, a position he has held for the past three years.
