The 2013 legislative session convened yesterday; the 105 day session is schedueld to end on April 28. Yesterday also marked the formal transition over power in the Senate from the Democrats to the Majority Coalition Caucus of two Democrats and 23 Republicans.
In the January edition of Practice and Thrive, Dr. Harold Crossley examines seven red flag behaviors to look for when you suspect patients might be "doctor-shopping" in an attempt to get drugs for personal use or to sell. According to Crossley, "It's better to refer that stranger to an emergency room rather than risk the well-being of the patient and those with whom they come into contact. This action also protects your dental license and your staff. Prescribing controlled medications to someone who is not a patient of record opens up the possibility of abuse or re-sale of those medications." Read the entire article here.
