« PROGRAM AIMS TO HELP LOCAL VETERANS IN NEED »

Be a Hero - Help a Hero!

Many dentists have reported that they would like to help veterans but have found it challenging to connect with veterans in need. Here is your chance to help without closing your office, working in an unfamiliar environment, or increasing your overhead. Drs. Theresa Cheng and Ken Akimoto have put together a program that that connects veterans in need with practitioners interested in providing care.

Who benefits: Veterans and their spouses. Veterans who have been deployed to wars, who have no dental insurance, and have financial challenges. Their spouses, who are often the silent heroes/heroines in their struggle to adjust to civilian life. You will get one patient a year.

Where is the care provided: In the comfort of your office.

What care are you asked to provide: General dentistry as you see fit.  We encourage specialists to partner with us —  so let us know when you need a referral. Many dentists also enlist their favorite specialists and labs! If there is too much dental need for a veteran, you can work on a quadrant and another dentist volunteer can continue the work needed.

When will you see program participants:
Accommodated in your schedule, at your convenience.

Why should you help: This is our opportunity to say thank you to our veterans who have been to war, be it Vietnam, Korea, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. Although most of them move on with their lives, some require more help. You will find that this free dentistry you and your staff provide is more therapeutic than you can imagine.

How to sign up: Call us at (425) 392-8992 and we will put you on the list. We will screen the veteran for eligibility. We will do BWX or FMX, a general exam, appropriate cleanings and refer them to you. We strongly require their participation in good oral hygiene and being punctual to appointments. Please call by November 1 as we will be seeing a new group of veterans on November 9 and need to refer some to general dentists.
