If you want one place in the Pacific Northwest that offers a diverse flavor of historical and cultural attractions, where you can pursue endless outdoor activities, then the Yakima Valley is the place for you. Located in south central Washington, Yakima Valley has miles of whitewater streams, numerous lakes, and is the gateway to the Columbia River and the Gifford-Pinchot National Forest.
Fishing, hunting, whitewater rafting, windsurfing, hiking, biking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, berry and mushroom picking, and scenic tours provide outdoor recreation opportunities to thousands of travelers and visitors. The moderate climate makes the Yakima Valley a year-round outdoor recreation destination.
Yakima County itself ranks first in the United States in the number of all fruit trees. It produces more apples, mint, winter pears, and hops than any other county. Additional agricultural products include peaches, apricots, cherries, beef, and wheat, and award winning wines. Yakima County has surpassed Whatcom County as Washington's leading county for dairy production and cow numbers.
