Surgeon General Endorses Community Water Fluoridation
On December 22, 2015, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, M.D., endorsed community water fluoridation.
"Fluoride's effectiveness in preventing tooth decay extends throughout one's life," he said, "resulting in fewer - and less severe - cavities."
Community water fluoridation education is one of the initiatives supported by the ADA's Action for Dental Health Movement. 2015 marked the 70th anniversary of community water fluoridation. Introduced in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1945, optimally fluoridated water has dramatically improved the oral health of tens of millions of Americans.
