Medicare Part D Enrollment Deadline Delayed to 2019
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) will once again be delaying the enforcement deadline of the Part D Prescriber Enrollment Requirement from February 1, 2017 to January 1, 2019. While CMS remains committed to implementing this requirement, their goal is to minimize the impact this regulation will have on Medicare beneficiaries and their access to care. In delaying the enforcement date, CMS will be able to implement a series of initiatives geared towards creating a smoother transition process, such as streamlining the application process and increasing provider outreach and education.
Although Medicare only covers a very limited number of dental procedures, at this time, dentists would still be required to comply with this regulation in 2019. The WSDA continues to support H.R. 4062, bipartisan legislation which seeks to preclude dentists and other providers from having to enroll in Medicare in order for their Medicare beneficiary patients’ prescriptions to be covered.
