Apple Health Opioid Clinical Policy Implementation Date Change
Please read the following announcement from the Washington State Health Care Authority regarding the Apple Health (Medicaid) opioid clinical policy.
The Health Care Authority (HCA) is letting you know that we have changed the implementation date for the Washington Apple Health (Medicaid) opioid clinical policy.
The policy will take effect November 1, 2017. It is available online here.
In August, HCA sent electronic communication to prescribers, pharmacies, and managed care organizations (MCOs) stating the policy would take effect October 1. Other organizations, such as the Washington State Medical Association, also shared this information at our request.
Why we're changing the implementation date to November 1
As we began to communicate about the policy and held informational webinars for prescribers and pharmacists, we heard concerns about the time needed to put process changes fully in place. Because we do not want the policy to disrupt practices and patient care, we are moving the date.
We want all managed care organizations serving Apple Health clients, prescribers, and pharmacies--in all parts of the state--to be able to make the transition as smoothly as possible.
More information about the policy is on the HCA website.
